01 North East England
North and East of Doncaster is the rough area covered in this collection, although some classes featured may defy this area. Every thing is here from the holiday destiations of East Yorkshire, the L.N.E.R. main line to Scotland, the Durham Dales and the wild Northumberland rural hinterland.
02 Scotland - The Highlands and the North
As the title suggests, this collection covers the highland railways of the North of Scotland. Prominance is given to The Highland Railway and The Great North of Scotland Railway locomotives but other companies locomotives feature during the L.M.S. and B.R. periods.
03 Scotland - South of the Tay
The Central Belt and Borders are the areas covered in this section. Featuring primarily North British and Caledonian Railway locomotives, again with the influx from other regions during L.M.S./L.N.E.R and B.R. periods.
04 North West England
This area covers the Northern Section of the L.M.S. and Midland main lines with the marvellous upland panoramas of Shap and the Settle and Carlisle Railways together with the industrialised, and heavily populated areas of the North-West.
05 Eastern England
For convenience I have included the railways South, East and to a certain extent, West of Doncaster. Therefore locomotives of the Great Eastern, Great Central and Great Northern Railway's feature alongside later additions during L.N.E.R. and B.R. periods.
06 The South
This will cover all areas of the former Southern Railway.
07 The Western Region and Wales
All things Great Western and including Wales.
08 Industrial & Light Railways
This collection will attempt to cover the diversity of locomotives that once powered British industry and the light railways, most never taken into the big companies - with the intrinsic charm and quirkiness that cloaked many of the examples on show. The nature of the collection means that images are mainly portraits - but fascinating nontheless.

News and Updates
The Steaming Back project has, largely, now come to an end and I must thank Neville for the use of his material. However, as and when we feel disposed, the odd image, or more, will no doubt appear. This will enable me to do other things. The site, however, will remain open to view.

Queries on content are most welcome, indeed encouraged, as are any corrections and observations as some of the images come with no or scant information.

We have placed these pictures in the public domain, and as such realise some may abuse our doing so. Personal use and direct linking aside, we would rather you ask first, rather than taking images off the screen for further use - you may get the benefit of a larger file!

Any such (reasonable) requests or for suitable files to use in Society Journals/Magazines or websites can be supplied at no cost. Please use the Leave a Message box.

No photographic/digital prints are available for private sale or use , except in extraordinary circumstances - and by arrangement with Neville, personally.
